Outreach magazine recently released its annual list of the top 100 largest churches in the United States, and this list revealed that some of the biggest megachurches are losing members rapidly.-Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston topped the list again this year with 43,500 attendees, but that was down dramatically from 47,000 in 2007.
-Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, came in at No. 4 this year but also reported a decline, dropping from 23,500 in 2007 to 22,500 this year.
-Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, reported a drop from 22,000 attendees to 19,414 this year.
Perhaps American Christians are starting to realize that churches with "feel good" messages but that don't preach sin, salvation, heaven, hell or repentence are not the right places to be.
