Documenting The Moral Decline That Threatens To Destroy America

George W. Bush: The Bible Is "Probably Not" Literally True

In an absolutely stunning new interview, President George W. Bush publicly said that the Bible is "probably not" literally true, that he prays to the same God that other major religions do and that he believes the scientific proof for evolution.

When asked if he believed that the Bible was literally true, President Bush responded this way:

"Probably not. No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it."

This interview will come as a disappointment to many evangelical Christians who rabidly supported Bush through two rocky terms as president.

The reality is that George W. Bush's religious beliefs are not compatible with evangelical Christianity.

For example, President George W. Bush has openly said many times that Christians, Muslims and all other religions pray to the same God. In stunning public statements, Bush has admitted that he prays to the God of Islam, that non-Christians and Muslims will go to heaven and that he has "nothing but praise" for Islam.

You don't believe this?

President Bush has been very open about these things.

Charles Gibson of ABC interviewed President George W. Bush and the topic of religion came up during the interview.....

CHARLES GIBSON:Do we all worship the same God, Christian and Muslim?

PRESIDENT BUSH:I think we do.

CHARLES GIBSON:Does ...

PRESIDENT BUSH:We have different routes of getting to the Almighty.

(Later in the interview.....)

CHARLES GIBSON:Do Christians and non-Christians and Muslims go to heaven in your mind?

PRESIDENT BUSH:Yes, they do. We have different routes of getting there.

But it wasn't just during the Charles Gibson interview that Bush declared himself to be a universalist.....

In a stunning interview with Al Arabiya television, Bush said, "I believe in an almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God."

During that same interview Bush also said, "I believe there is a universal God. I believe the God that the Muslim prays to is the same God that I pray to. After all, we all came from Abraham. I believe in that universality."

During one trip to Iraq, Bush reportedly made this statement: "I want you to convey this message to Mr. Sistani. Tell him that I pray to the same god he prays to... Tell Sistani I have nothing but praise for your religion."

Now does any of that sound "Christian" to you?

According to George W. Bush, Jesus must have been mistaken in John 14:6.....

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

The truth is that George W. Bush has always rejected even the most basic Christian beliefs.

Evangelical Christians were conned into thinking that Bush was "one of them" - the reality is that he isn't one of them and he never was.

Bush was never any one of us much less any evangelical christian! He was for himself, his family, and his own pocketbook in my opinion.

Because people have the audacity to question if the bible is true, this leads to moral decay of this country?
I don't think so.
GWB took the whole lot of um for a good old ride
.All one has to say is "I believe in god" and they will fall all over themselves to vote for that person...Does not matter how moral or immoral they are.
And believing in the bible and god does not necessarily make you any better or more moral than someone who does not believe in a god
.So what does Bush really believe? Who knows...Who cares..I sure don't.
But had he said the bible is a work of fiction (which it is) he'd never have been elected and we'd not be in this blasted war and the economy would not be down the shitter.
So thanks a lot you consecrative xtains for electing him.
Hope your happy now.

I don't think GWB's views are all that terribly sophisticated anyway. And he is, after all, a politician who will say what he thinks people want to hear in order to get elected. He's not what one might call a "deep" thinker. I suspect that many who define themselves as christian would, when questioned, fail to meet even the basic criteria for such identification. For many, it's more of a touchy-feely, feel good kind of thing than any actual commitment to an orthodox set of beliefs or credal statement. By such standards, most who call themselves christians really aren't.

You know, instead of sniping at him, you guys might pray that he understands the importance of the salvation of Jesus.

Maybe the "Christian Right" should have been thinking about these things when "W" destroyed our constitutional freedoms and unlawfully invaded a sovereign nation. That should have been a pretty strong indication that he wasn't a Christian...there's nothing "beating swords into plowshares" about an invasion of a sovereign power.

There are plenty of Christians who do not take the BIble literally, and it was, in fact, considered HERETICAL to take the Bible literally for centuries. Biblical literalism is a rather new development.

So get over yourself and just be happy like the rest of us that a criminal is out of office.

For that matter, The Christian Right's new wunderkind, Sarah Palin, is just as despicable as W, spreading lies and hateful propaganda about Obama throughout her entire time on the campaign trail, and she's just as trigger-happy as W.

Maybe the Christian Right will think twice in 2012? Oh wait, I forgot, you're all suckers who don't care if a candidate actually LIVES like a Christian or not, just so long as they say the words you want to hear.

After the looting of the treasury, the warrantless wire taps, the no-bid contracts to haliburton, the "patriot"act, and the inaction which allowed the suffering of millions in New Orleans... this is what finally got you mad? The deaths of thousands of innocent Iraqis and American soldiers in the name of war profiteering? No, its the admission that a compilation of stories written by different people, which contains MANY contradictions may not be literally true. Thats what gets you seething mad?

The sad thing is that i know christians who are reasonable, moral, and not fanatical and you guys are really giving them a bad name.

I still don't understand how it works that people base their religions on adherence to the idea that an internally conflicted book is inerrant. For W. to say the Bible is not literally true is the only position possible for anyone who has read it. That Christians and Muslims pray to the same god is a plain fact. And he didn't say anything universalist either, since he restricted his comments to only two of the three Abrahamic religions, and only the two that believe in the divinity of Jesus. And so, as usual, the religious author's point depends entirely on ignorance of everything, including religion.

I find this new relaxed theocracy of W. encouraging. If Bush is not actually an hellfire evangelical but rather just a plain old Christian, what might plain old Christian Obama turn out to be when he doesn't have to run for office anymore?

Dr. Tom Snyder said...

The ignorance of people is astounding. The term "literal" is a misnomer. It refers to the plain meaning of the biblical text, whether historical sometimes mixed with poetry, use of concrete language, use of figurative or symbolic language, etc., interpreted in the context of the words on the page. Jesus compares himself to a mother hen gathering her chicks at one point. Does that mean he's a chicken? Of course not. The Christian right is supported by tons and tons of biblical and historical research and scholarship. And, the Muslims have distorted the history of the Jews and of Jesus, not to mention the history of Christianity, so their concepts of God do not match the Christian concept of God we find in the biblical text. Hitler rejected what the Bible had to say, and look what happened because of that. And, the pro-choice movement rejects what the Bible, not to mention biology, has to say about the creation of human beings in the womb, and look how many people they have killed!!! The Iraq War may not have been the prudent thing to do, but millions of Arabs, and Persians in Iran, not to mention people in Pakistan and Afghanistan, have the chance to create democratic republics with liberty and justice for all. Instead of blaming Bush, why don't we blame the terrorists and tyrants in the Arab, Persian and Muslim communities who need to reform their societies according to true moral standards from God, not invented ones?

The American people should know that George W. Bush is not only a war criminal: for example, he is also a hate-crime criminal.

George W. Bush had better stop committing hate crimes.

“What did you think of that NAACP anti-Bush race-baiting ad in 2000? You know, the one that practically said Bush was responsible for the dragging-to-death-behind-a-truck murder of a black man just because he didn’t sign a hate crimes bill several years after the man’s death” (Posted by Aaron. Retrieved December 11, 2008, from http://www.metafilter.com/14860/).

ON THE TOPIC OF HATE CRIME(S):

George W. Bush hates black people (indicated at http://andrewyu-jenwang.blogspot.com/2008/12/andrew-yu-jen-wang-responds-to-stokely.html).

“Sean Penn accuses Bush of ‘criminal negligence’” (Retrieved December 11, 2008, from http://www.deadlykatrina.com/?p=115). Thus, Sean Penn believes that George W. Bush was at fault, criminally, relative to the Katrina disaster.

“Had the residents of New Orleans been white Republicans in a state that mattered politically, instead of poor blacks in city that didn’t, Bush’s response surely would have been different. Compare what happened when hurricanes Charley and Frances hit Florida in 2004. Though the damage from those storms was negligible in relation to Katrina’s, the reaction from the White House was instinctive, rapid, and generous to the point of profligacy. Bush visited hurricane victims four times in six weeks and delivered relief checks personally. Michael Brown of FEMA, now widely regarded as an incompetent political hack, was so responsive that local officials praised the agency’s performance.”

“The kind of constituency politics that results in a big life-preserver for whites in Florida and a tiny one for blacks in Louisiana may not be racist by design or intent. But the inevitable result is clear racial discrimination. It won’t change when Republicans care more about blacks. It will change when they have more reason to care.”

Jacob Weisberg. (2005, September 7). An Imperfect Storm . . . How race shaped Bush’s response to Katrina. Slate. Retrieved December 7, 2008, from http://www.slate.com/?id=2125812&nav=tap2/

“And I’m sorry, but anyone who doesn’t think race has anything to do with the way things have gone down in New Orleans is really beyond help. Like my man Big Sexy said: ‘Do you think folks woulda been left out like that if this had happened in Vermont?’ A complete and utter disgrace” (Posted by Jackie Chiles. Retrieved December 7, 2008, from http://aofg.blogs.com/the_airing_of_grievances/2005/09/kanye_west_.html).

Assuming that George W. Bush had in fact been criminally negligent relative to the Katrina disaster, would Bush be responsible for hate crime(s)?

“One of those very least were George Bush’s personal complicity in the death (murder to be precise) of my friend Margie Schoedinger[,] [an African-American woman,] in September of 2003. Determining the exact whereabouts and contacts of [then] president-elect George Bush on September 21 thru 22, 2003, should be entirely lacking in difficulty” (Leola McConnell (Nevada Progressive Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010). Retrieved November 29, 2008, from http://leolaforussenate.blogspot.com/2008/02/leola-mcconnell-for-us-senate.html).

Does George W. Bush’s murder of Margie Schoedinger constitute a hate crime?

“A woman in Texas who filed a lawsuit against the president for rape and torture[,] [Margie Schoedinger,] was found shot to death. It was ruled a suicide. No one is investigating. Bush reportedly dated the woman in high school and speculation is that he was using the woman as his sex slave because he is above the law” (John Kaminski (author of “America’s Autopsy Report,” a collection of his Internet essays published on hundreds of websites around the world). (No date listed). Why We Need Martial Law . . . Criminal government is destroying America; military must step in to restore Constitution. serendipity.li. Retrieved December 10, 2008, from http://www.serendipity.li/wot/jk_on_martial_law.htm).

Do George W. Bush’s rape and torture of Margie Schoedinger constitute hate crimes?

“I believe that George W. Bush hates black people. Through secret government machinations, he caused Hurricane Katrina to form and aimed it at New Orleans on purpose, just so he could wipe out lots of poor blacks. I also believe that before the hurricane hit, he snuck into New Orleans and stole the keys to every school bus in the city to make evacuation of poor people impossible” (Janet M. Stroble. (2006, April 12). Now I Believe. http://www.military.com/. Retrieved November 26, 2008, from http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,94064,00.html).

If George W. Bush intentionally did what Janet M. Stroble indicated, would Bush have committed hate crimes against countless black people?

“I believe that George W. Bush hates Moslems. All that garbage about freedom, democracy, and the right to vote is a pollution of their culture. I believe that George W. Bush hates immigrants. There were a lot of immigrants working in the World Trade Center and George W. Bush didn’t warn them ahead of time” (Janet M. Stroble. (2006, April 12). Now I Believe. http://www.military.com/. Retrieved November 26, 2008, from http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,94064,00.html).

In that George W. Bush hates immigrants and deliberately failed to warn them ahead of time as indicated by Janet M. Stroble: would Bush accordingly be responsible for hate crimes relative to racial minorities who were harmed?

“Did Kanye West[’]s [comment], [‘]George Bush Hates Black People[’][,] get his mother killed?” (Retrieved October 18, 2008, from http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread364428/pg1).

There is a discussion at http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread364428/pg1 relating to whether President George W. Bush murdered Kanye West’s mother—Ms. Donda West.

Did President George W. Bush, who hates black people, murder Kanye West’s mother in the heat of raging racism? Somebody indicated that although the president of the United States is monitored by the Secret Service, he certainly can meet with one or more persons where his conversations are not intercepted and secretly “order a hit” on someone or order the murder of someone.

If George W. Bush did murder Kanye West’s mother, would it constitute a hate crime?

GEORGE W. BUSH MURDERED A JEW!

“George W. Bush murdered the Jewish former Senator—Paul Wellstone” (Retrieved December 10, 2008, from http://andrewyu-jenwang.blogspot.com/2008/12/senator-paul-wellstone-assassinated-by.html). This Internet site has a lot of information indicating that George W. Bush murdered Wellstone.

“Bush’s visit to Israel is under the guise of Middle East peace. You gotta be kidding me! Bush is THE MASTER ARCHITECT of Middle East war, not peace. . . . Bush didn’t go to Israel because he likes Israelis or like Jews, nope, he went there because he hates them. He went there to spread his message of doom, war, pain and death” (Storm Bear. (2008, January 10). PROOF: George W Bush Is An Anti-Semite! http://www.bitsofnews.com/. Retrieved November 23, 2008, from http://www.bitsofnews.com/content/view/6706/).

“‘We have a president who was selected rather than elected. He stole the presidency through family ties, arrogance and intimidation, employing Republican operatives to exercise the tactics of voter fraud by disenfranchising thousands of blacks, elderly Jews and other minorities’” (Barbra Streisand at BarbraStreisand.com. Retrieved November 26, 2008, from http://mindprod.com/politics/election.html).

“A new book out today quotes George W. Bush back in 1993 as saying: ‘You know what I’m gonna tell those Jews when I get to Israel, don’t you Herman? I’m telling ‘em they’re all going to hell’” (Posted by Terry Olson. (2006, September 5). The anti-Semite and the agnostic: George W. Bush and Karl Rove. OlsonOnline. “It’s now official: the Bush family wealth is linked to the Jewish Holocaust” (Retrieved November 2, 2008, from http://hubpages.com/hub/Its_now_official_the_Bush_family_wealth_is_linked_to_the_Jewish_Holocaust).

“Bush Family Are Nazi” (Retrieved November 2, 2008, from http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=132271029&blogID=198480648).

“How the Bush Family Helped Hitler Kill 6 Million Jews” (Retrieved November 2, 2008, from http://groups.google.com.vn/group/alt.atheism/browse_thread/thread/ed8f042caa600036).

“But now the multibillion dollar legal action for damages by two Holocaust survivors against the Bush family, and the imminent publication of three books on the subject are threatening to make Prescott Bush’s business history an uncomfortable issue for his grandson, George W. . . .” (Retrieved November 2, 2008, from http://sci.tech-archive.net/Archive/sci.med.cardiology/2004-09/2146.html).

Assuming that George W. Bush did in fact murder the Jewish former Senator—Paul Wellstone, would Bush have committed a hate crime? Bush would have “purposefully” (criminal-law terminology) murdered Wellstone. Wellstone’s Jewish wife and Jewish daughter also died in the plane crash. Bush would have “knowingly” (criminal-law terminology) murdered Wellstone’s wife and daughter. However, would Bush’s murders of Wellstone’s Jewish wife and Jewish daughter also have constituted hate crimes?
