Moral Decline

Documenting The Moral Decline That Threatens To Destroy America

Fooled By The Bushes

One of the biggest con jobs in U.S. political history was pulled on American conservatives over the past decade, and most of them still don't even realize it.  For two elections, and for over 8 years, George and Laura Bush portrayed themselves as true conservatives who were willing to fight for Christian values.  Well, it turns out that the Bushes were never "conservative" at all.  In fact, in public statement after public statement they have denied the very basics of the Christian faith.  For example, during a recent interview with Larry King, former first lady Laura Bush revealed that she is actually in favor of legalized gay marriage and a woman's "right" to abortion.

This is a woman that conservative women all over the country have looked up to and have endlessly praised.

So what are they supposed to think now?

The truth is that Christians and conservatives collectively spent millions of hours working to get the Bushs into the White House under the assumption that they were conservative Christians.

But Laura Bush sounded very much like Hillary Clinton during this interview with Larry King....

What is that quote that George W. Bush gets criticized for so much?  Something about not getting fooled again?....

There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again.

Well, it turns out that the Bushs fooled us over and over and over and over.

But sadly, the truth is that the signs were there all along, but conservatives and Christians did not want to see them....

Are you starting to get the picture?

The reality is that in his interviews with the press, George W. Bush was very open about the fact that he does not believe what Christians believe.

In one absolutely stunning interview near the end of his second term, George W. Bush actually said that the Bible is "probably not" literally true, that he prays to the same God that other major religions such as Islam do and that he believes in the scientific evidence for Darwinism.

This is his exact quote when he was asked if he believed that the Bible was literally true....

"Probably not. No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it."

The cold, hard reality is that George W. Bush has never embraced evangelical Christianity.

For example, George W. Bush publicly said many times that Christians, Muslims and all other religions pray to the exact same God. In fact, Bush says that he prays to the God of Islam, that non-Christians and Muslims will go to heaven and that he has "nothing but praise" for Islam.

You don't believe this?

Check this out.

The following a portion of a transcript of an interview during which Charles Gibson of ABC asked George W. Bush his thoughts about religion.....

CHARLES GIBSON: Do we all worship the same God, Christian and Muslim?

PRESIDENT BUSH: I think we do.

CHARLES GIBSON: Does ...

PRESIDENT BUSH: We have different routes of getting to the Almighty.

(Later in the interview.....)

CHARLES GIBSON: Do Christians and non-Christians and Muslims go to heaven in your mind?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Yes, they do. We have different routes of getting there.

But it wasn't just during the Charles Gibson interview that George W. Bush declared himself to be a universalist.....

In a shocking interview with Al Arabiya television, Bush said the following....

"I believe in an almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God."

During that same interview Bush also said this....

"I believe there is a universal God. I believe the God that the Muslim prays to is the same God that I pray to. After all, we all came from Abraham. I believe in that universality."

During one trip to Iraq, Bush is reported to have made this statement....

"I want you to convey this message to Mr. Sistani. Tell him that I pray to the same god he prays to... Tell Sistani I have nothing but praise for your religion."

Now does any of that sound "Christian" to you?

According to George W. Bush, Jesus must have been mistaken in John 14:6 when He said this.....

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

How in the world can anyone continue to claim that the Bushs are conservatives or that they are evangelical Christians?

The truth is that they never have been.

It is time for conservatives to face up to the truth....

We got fooled by the Bushes.
